KILLSPILLS SET NEW WORLD RECORD
BikeFest UK plays host to world record attempt
KillSpills established to combat the menace of diesel spills on our roads, has been recognised
as setting a Guinness World Record™ for ‘the most different types of motorcycle in a parade'
Officially recorded as:
‘The most different types of motorcycle in a parade is 138 at BikeFest UK in an event
organised by the KillSpills Campaign (UK) at Donington Park race circuit, Leicestershire, UK
on 26 May 2007’.
The record was set following last year’s KillSpills 617 Ride from Westminster to BikeFest UK
at Donington Park where 489 bikes took to the track for the audited record attempt.
Such were the rules that unfortunately only different ‘types’ of motorcycle could be counted
and of the 489 on track, only 150 different models/makes were represented and as year
derivatives could not be included, long-running popular models, no matter what the version,
were counted as one type, hence the 138 official record.

Of the bikes that took part, twenty-one makes were represented, Suzuki being the largest
followed by Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki. The four Japanese manufacturers accounted for
over 80% of the bikes on track with Yamaha’s R1 being the most popular.
Sponsored by the BMF, the KillSpills campaign has made significant progress over the
past five years, most recently being responsible for revisions to the Highway Code high-
lighting the dangers of diesel spills. KillSpills has also obtained funding from the DfT for
200,000 anti diesel spill leaflets and saw the Highways Agency launch their own anti diesel
spill message for which they received the BMF/KillSpills award 2007 for ‘Achievement in
Reducing Diesel Spills.’
